Isidro Perez came to the United States from a small town in Mexico in the early seventies. He came in search of a better quality of life. He worked hard and saved up as much money as he could and by 1989 his dream of opening a business became a reality. In Mexico the Perez family ha d ow ne d operated bakeries for three generations, Isidro having learned from an early age, decided to do what he did best and opened his very first bakery in C hi ca go , Illinois.
In 1994 he decided to move to Minneapolis, Minnesota to raise his family. He opened the first Marissa’s Bakery (named after his first born) on Minneapolis’ famous Eat Street. The bakery, although small, stayed true to its values and was a hit among fellow Minneapolitans.
Since its humble beginnings the company has expanded significantly. In 1999, the company ventured into the tortilla industry and introduced “Los Maizales” the very first Tortilleria in Minneapolis. Since then many competitors have opened their own business’ yet because Los Maizales Tortilleria has remained true to it’s values, vision, and history it’s products have remained a consumer favourite.
At Los Maizales Tortilleria we make and bake Mexican–style products in the same family owned Mexican tradition that has been passed down from generation to generation. We take pride in the way we make our products and stay true to its authentic flavours.
Los Maizales Tortilleria is so special to us because it challenges those who say the American dream is no more, she is living proof it is indeed alive and well. She is a true American company.
